New penalties seek to punish unfair employers

Employers will be fined up to VND5 million if salaries are paid to their employees insufficiently or slowly without any compensation, according to a recently-announced decree draft.

They will also face a fine of VND3 million ($175) if they do not arrange changing rooms, bathrooms, and toilets for female employees, according to the draft, which was announced by the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs.

The same provision states that employers must allow female employees, who are raising children under the age of 12 months, to rest one hour a day.

Businesses that stop employing female workers because of marriage, pregnancy, raising children under the age of 12 months, or if teenage laborers are involved in physically grueling work will likely be fined up to VND10 million.

The draft also suggested that job services providers get a fine up to VND10 million (US$584) and have their business license revoked if they purposely cheat job seekers with false advisements,
