HCMC fashion fair showcases regional products

Textile, garment and footwear products of 150 Southeast Asian businesses will be displayed at the Vietnam International Fashion Fair 2009 that opens today in Ho Chi Minh City’s Tan Binh District.

The organizers, the Vietnam National Textile and Garment Group (Vinatex) and local apparel and footwear industry associations, said the seven-day event would help businesses share experiences and seek partners in efforts to fight the economic downturn.

Vietnam is among the world’s top 10 apparel and footwear exporters but its fashion industry is still young.

Later this year, Vietnam will join the Asian Fashion Federation, which at present comprises China, Japan, Singapore, South Korea and Thailand according to the organizers.
