HCM City short of about 61,000 workers

By the end of June, Ho Chi Minh City found itself with about 61,000 fewer workers than it needs, including 12,000 workers in processing and industrial zones.

One reason is that many companies had to lay off workers due to financial problems. Those workers have had to find new jobs in other companies or even other service industries.

Now, with new orders being placed, many businesses cannot fill them for lack of workers. Some have abused workers by letting them three shifts a day but then not paying them according to the law. Many businesses have paid their workers less than the minimum legal wage.

Other businesses are being forced to adjust wages in order to keep their workers. Big companies such as Viet Tien, Nha Be and Sai Gon 3 are paying wages of VND2.5 million per month. Some are also following regulations on bonuses and leave time.
