VN hosts Asia Pacific meet after success of auditing firm.

The PKF International Limited Asia Pacific Partners Conference (APPC) aims to bring member firms together from throughout the Asia Pacific region with delegates from as far away as the US and Russia.

Viet Nam was selected to host the APPC 2009 to celebrate the pending Full Membership status of Phuong Dong ICA Auditing Co Ltd (PCA) to the PKF International Trading after having passed a rigorous training and quality control process. The energy and industry of Viet Nam provides an exciting backdrop for the APPC analogous to PKF International Limited global ambitions.

The Asia Pacific Regional Director of PKF International, Stephen Darley, talked to Viet Nam News reporter Dieu Thuy about the potential development of the local auditing industry.

What do you think about auditing enterprises in Viet Nam in light of the fact that PKF chose Phuong Dong ICA Auditing Co to be your sole representative?

About the auditing profession in Viet Nam, I don’t think I can comment. I’d like to talk about the PCA. They are a young firm but I see energy in them and they certainly satisfied our requirements. They are willing, multi-dimensional and energetic enough to be part of an international organisation. With offices in HCM City and Da Nang, they have demonstrated the raw enthusiasm and energy that we desire in any new member.

What is the inspiration for the PKF International to choose representatives in Viet Nam now?

A number of our competitors have been in Viet Nam for many years and these have a solid client base. The industry as a whole across the region is still developing and all need to keep up to speed with the changing environment and inherent risks in business and financial operations.

We are making a solid investment in Viet Nam and in the PCA – and they too will make sizeable investments in developing their staff and systems. Ongoing training is paramount and the PCA have made a firm commitment in this endeavour.

In addition, our key focus is middle market where small- and medium-sized enterprises, which hold the most market-shares in Viet Nam, fit in.

What do you think of the possible booming trend that local auditors would integrate into an international auditing organisation, aiming to strengthen the competitiveness of overseas firms?

There is recognition that in the context of industry and services globalisation that service providers such as auditors and accountants need to similarly keep up with global practice and infrastructure.

The PKF International global clients demand a consistency of service and product delivery. In turn, local auditing firms with any desire to grow and participate in the profession look to existing international organisations.

In general, what do you think of our economic development with the easing of the global economic crisis?

We are very confident about the future of Viet Nam and I believe that the country is well placed to ride the rebound well – on the back of its own consumers and the Chinese Dragon.
