Poland wants more Viet Nam business

Poland would like to expand co-operation with Viet Nam in a variety of fields, said Secretary of State for the Ministry of Economy of Poland Adam Szejnfeld.

At the reception in the capital yesterday by Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai, Szejnfeld also expressed that he was impressed with the economic development of Viet Nam.

For his part, Hai expressed his delight at the development of the traditional friendship and co-operation between the two countries in various fields, including training, ship building, energy, oil and gas.

He expressed appreciation for the US$280 million of ODA provided to Viet Nam by the Polish Government and affirmed that the Government would continue guiding the rapid and effective disbursement of this capital.

They agreed that in the context of the global economic decline, the two countries should enhance co-operation to overcome difficulties and fully tap their potential to support each other in gaining access to markets of ASEAN and European countries.

At a meeting with representatives from the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade yesterday, Szejnfeld said Viet Nam and Poland would have many opportunities to expand co-operation to shipbuilding, energy, coal mining and chemicals.

Szejnfeld hoped that co-operation projects in such potential sectors, as well as projects related to food processing and tourism, would be implemented by next year when the two countries celebrate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations.

Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Le Danh Vinh called for strengthened partnerships between both countries for businesses working with oil and gas, agriculture processing and training.

Two-way trade between Viet Nam and Poland had increased significantly in the past few years, reaching $640 million in 2008; which much higher than the target of $500 million set for next year.
