Land cleared for northern power stations

PetroVietnam Power Corporation (PV Power) and PetroVietnam Construction Joint Stock Corporation (PVC) began leveling the site on Sunday for the Thai Binh power center in northern Thai Binh Province’s My Loc Commune.

The 254-hectare power center will comprise Thai Binh 1 and Thai Binh 2 thermo-power plants, PetroVietnam National Oil and Gas group (PVN) said.

Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) is investing US$780 million in the 600- MW Thai Binh 1.

EVN said they would start construction by year-end and expect to be generating power by the end of 2012.

Thai Binh 2 thermo-power plant is invested by PV Power with the capacity of 1,200 MW.

PV Power said the $1.4-billion plant would begin construction next year and be fully operational by the end of 2013 generating 7.2 billion Kwh.
