Brewer sees net income rising, to list in June
Hanoi Beer-Alcohol-Beverages Corporation, a Vietnamese brewer partly owned by Carlsberg A/S, said it expects profit to “slightly” increase this year and that its stock will start trading on the over-the-counter market in June.
The net income of Habeco, as the company is known, would rise to VND250 billion (US$14 million) from VND247 billion last year, chairman Le Ba Co said in a telephone interview from Hanoi Thursday.
The revenue of the Hanoi-based brewer, Vietnam’s third-largest, is expected to climb to VND3.7 trillion from VND3.4 trillion last year, Co said. Habeco plans to set up a new brewery that will produce 100 million liters of beer a year in the northern province of Vinh Phuc in the fourth quarter.
The maker of “Hanoi Beer” held its first initial public offering in March last year. The government raised VND199 billion, compared with the VND1.74 trillion it expected to get, after a plunge in the stock market. The benchmark VN-Index, which lost 66 percent last year, has rallied 32 percent this year.
Carlsberg, the largest Danish brewer, holds around 16 percent of Habeco, Co said, with the Vietnamese government owning almost 82 percent.
Vietnam plans to start a new exchange, known locally as UPCoM or the regulated over-the-counter market, in June on the Hanoi Securities Trading Center to regulate unlisted companies, the Ministry of Finance said earlier this month.
“We plan to list our shares on the regulated OTC market first, probably in June right after the market is operational,” Co said. The government would decide when the company starts trading in the country’s exchanges, he said.
