Rushing to purchase finance and real estate company stocks
The securities of the companies in the fields of finance and real estate are being hunted by investors, who believe that the most difficult times of the market are over.
The VN Index has made a splendid recovery from its deepest low of 235 points, having increased by 45%. Meanwhile, several tens of share items have witnessed the price increase of 100%. Just within one month, the increases of the stock market have brought six times more profit than 1-year deposits.
Among the securities items of finance companies and banks, the sharpest price increases have belonged to SSI (Saigon Securities Incorporated) and STB (Sacombank) on HCM City bourse, and BVS, ACB and KLS on Hanoi bourse.
ACB, for example, witnessed the sharp price increase of 85% from VND22,500/share on February 24, when the VN Index was at 235 points, to VND41,700/share on April 14. Meanwhile, SSI seems to have no seller: The number of buyers has increased by 100%; the price is now VND42,200/share.
STB (Sacombank), though having seen a more modest increase of 63% (the price now VND21,700/share), is the share item with the highest liquidity. STB has been leading the market in terms of trading volume every trading session.
On April 14, for example, orders to trade 10mil STB were matched, or 1.5 times more than the transaction volume of the entire market in January and February.
REE of the Refrigeration Engineering Enterprise, which was under the control of the HCM City Stock Exchange for losing money in 2008, has seen the impressive price increase of 114%, from VDN16,900/share to VND36,200/share.
Trang, an investor on Phuong Dong Trading floor, said that investors are hunting REE, a typical share item, whose shareholders benefit when the stock market increases. REE has a high rate of provisions for financial investments which will become surplus when the market keeps increasing.
ITA of Tan Tao Industrial Zone Development Company also proves to be one of the items being hunted by many investors. The price of the share item has jumped from VND15,200/share to VND37,400/share, up by nearly 250%.
Other real estate share items have also increased, with KBC up by 85%, CII 100% and SJS 30%.
Rubber share items have increased by 70-90% on average, seafood 60-80%.
Other share items have seen prices increase more slowly as the prices were high already, including DHG (+ 15%), VNM (20%). The PEs of the two share items are relatively high, 12-16.6x.
SAM is also a share item which has caught the special attention of investors, with a 100% increase to VND21,800/share, and a high trading volume (10mil shares per trading session). However, other share items in the same field like UNI and VTC have not seen such impressive increases.
High risks?
The market has increased by 112 points within just 1.5 months, with the VN Index surging to 347 points (+ 45%). The attractive profit has made many investors regret not injecting money in stocks before. The six-fold price increases mean six-fold more profit for investors. Bank depositors have to deposit money for one year to get such a profit level (8% per annum).
That explains why most investors sold stocks to earn profit on April 14, with 53mil shares transacted.
According to FPTS, the excitement of investors has helped the market become more bustling. The total transaction value in March was 2.5 times greater than in February. The last week alone saw the trading volume reach nearly VDN4tril, up by 31.11%.
FPTS said that SAM, STB and SSI are still being hunted by investors.
However, SSI has warned that technical risks in short-term investments prove to be at a high level as the current price levels are not cheap anymore with the PE at 12x. However, SSI believes that purchasing more shares and holding good share items which can be sold readily to recoup losses is a good plan.
