Vietnamese farm produce popular in Philippines
Vietnam won contracts to export 3.65 million tonnes of rice in the first three months of this year, with 41 percent being shipped to the Philippines.
A spokesperson for the Fly Ace Corporation, who import large amounts of farm produce to the Philippines, said that Vietnamese produce is of better quality and more competitively priced than that of other countries.
Besides, Vietnamese businesses are very quick to meet with specific demands from importers, said Ellen L. Cochanco, Fly Ace purchasing director.
By using an online trade service introduced by the Phat Dat Wood Company, Fly Ace are linked up with seven leading Vietnamese coffee producers and three condensed milk suppliers.
Cochanco added that Vietnamese condensed milk, tea and coffee is very popular with Filipino consumers.
She also revealed that the firm is considering introducing standards for imported rice and plans to sign more contracts in late March.
However, Vietnamese enterprisers should improve their packaging and processing technologies to raise the level of their competitiveness.
