Upbeat sentiment drives market up
The Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange remained bullish on Wednesday as investor confidence was boosted by a recent rally on the market.
The VN-Index of 175 leading firms and four closed-end funds moved up for the fourth straight session, adding 10.19 points, 3.87 percent, to close at 273.39, its highest level since November 5, 2008.
The market’s liquidity was improved strongly, with around 24 million shares worth VND490 billion ($28 million) changing hands.
Of the index members, 149 advanced, 13 fell and 13 were unchanged.
Hau Giang Pharmaceutical Joint-Stock Company (DHG) rose by the daily trading limit of 5 percent to VND105,000. Citigroup Global Market Ltd and Citigroup Global Market Financial Products Ltd sold more than 5,000 shares to cut its stake from 5.02 percent to 4.99 percent, according to a statement on the exchange’s website.
Citigroup also offloaded 3,000 shares in Saigon Hotel Corp. (SGH) to lower its holdings from 19.03 percent to 18.86 percent. Saigon Hotel Corp. was among today’s winners, increasing 4.69 percent to VND67,000.
Can Tho Techno-Agricultural Supplies Joint-Stock Company (TSC), one of Vietnam’s biggest fertilizer importers, advanced for a third day, rising 4.9 percent to VND34,500, the highest since January 8. The company, based in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho, expects pretax profits of VND60 billion this year on sales of VND2 trillion, according to a company statement posted on the bourse’s website today.
Dic Investment and Trading Joint-Stock Company (DIC) rose 4.35 percent to close at VND14,400. PetroVietnam Joint-Stock Finance Corporation’s HCMC branch failed to sell 456,250 shares as the share price fell too low, the bourse said on its website. The financial firm holds 656,250 shares, 9.69 percent, of DIC.
Sieu Thanh Joint Stock Corporation (ST8) advanced 2.7 percent to VND19,000. The firm said on the exchange’s website that its vice chairwoman, Pham Thi Mai Duyen, raised her holdings from 1.419.851 shares to 1.446.661.
The Hanoi Securities Trading Center also rose sharply today, with the HaSTC-Index rising 4.88 percent to finish at 98.14 points.
