Online Payment Exhibition Opens
The State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) has joined the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT), for the first time, in holding the Vietnam Online Payment Exhibition 2009 in Hanoi on March 16. SBV Deputy Governor Nguyen Toan Thang and MOIT Vice Minister Le Danh Vinh attended the opening ceremony of the Exhibition.
In his speech, Deputy Governor Nguyen Toan Thang stated that the electronic payment sector in Vietnam has seen a strong growth over the past years. Electronic payment in general, online payment in particular, is one of the key factors contributing to boosting electronic commerce and enhancing the competitiveness of enterprises in the context of Vietnam’s deep and intensive international integration.
However, online payment operations in Vietnam are only preliminary, thus requiring improvement of technology on the part of the providers of solutions and services, close coordination with the banking sector and the favorable conditions created by the Government Agencies. Additionally, the annual Vietnam Online Payment Exhibition will be significant for further development of online payment in order to support electronic commerce in Vietnam.
At this exhibition, three topics will be posed for discussion, namely “Policy and infrastructure for electronic commerce development in Vietnam”, “Tendency of online payment in support of electronic commerce in Vietnam” and “Application of online payment in Vietnam”.
The same day, the Smartlink Card Service Ioint-Stock Company and the Mastercard Worldwide officially launched the Smartlink-MasterCard payment portal.
The Smartlink-MasterCard Payment Portal allows and handles online transactions of buying and selling goods and services via 5 most popular international cards, namely, Visa, MasterCard, American Express, JCB, and Diners Club.
