Tax delinquents face VND20 million fine under new decree

Taxation officials can slap fines of up to VND20 million (US$1,150) on anybody delaying submission of documents for tax registration or breaking tax laws under a new decree to take effect in April.

Under Decree 13/2009/ND-CP issued by the government Friday, tax officers on duty can fine people up to VND200,000 for infringements, double the current penalty, while group heads will have the power to impose fines of up to VND5 million.

Taxpayers can be fined VND500,000-5 million for filing tax declarations 90 days or more past the due date, though no penal tax will be imposed.
