SBV Deputy Governor Nguyen Van Binh meets with WB’s independent assessment team

Deputy Governor Nguyen Van Binh of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) had a meeting with a WB independent assessment team in Hanoi on February 25 to discuss several issues related to WB’s operations in Vietnam, especially the implementation and results of the Rural Finance Projects I, II and III.

On behaft of the SBV Management Board, Deputy Governor Nguyen Van Binh expressed his sincere thanks to WB for its support and assistance for Vietnam during the past years. He said that the Vietnamese Government highly appreciated the effectiveness of all  programs and projects funded by WB in Vietnam. The Deputy Governor asserted that the First Rural Finance Project was successful in facilitating a large number of households to get access to financial resources, and actively supporting the agricultural and rural development and poverty reduction in Vietnam, thereby serving as a foundation for the implementation of the next projects. He expressed his wish for  further assistance of the WB for Projects II and III and Vietnam’s socio-economic development as well.

The two sides also discussed other issues, namely the system of credit institutions in Vietnam, operational expansion of Vietnamese urban joint-stock commercial banks in the rural areas, the donors’ mid and long-term financial resources for Vietnam, and so on and so forth.

The same day, Deputy Governor Nguyen Van Binh had another  meeting with Ms. Karin Kortman, Member of Parliament and Minister of State of Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany and other members of the  visiting German Parliament delegation.

The two sides discussed several issues such as the implementation of the Poverty Reduction Support Credit in Vietnam, the foreign exchange management of the SBV, the relationship between the SBV and the Deutsche Bundesbank, and foreign indirect investment in Vietnam.

The Deputy Governor briefed the German Delegation of Vietnam’s macro-economic situation in 2008 and measures to promote economic growth in 2009. On behalf of the SBV’s Management Board, the Deputy Governor expressed his sincere thanks to German Government for its support and assistance to Vietnam during the past years and expressed the hope for Germany’s further support for Vietnam’s socio-economic development.
