Business tax procedures to be overhauled
Tax agencies have been ordered to cut red tape to reduce the amount of time it takes for businesses to deal with tax matters by a quarter.
Deputy Minister of Finance Do Hoang Anh Tuan told a meeting on tax and customs that tax formalities should take a business around 800 hours a year to complete instead of the current average of 1,050 hours.
Tuan told the meeting, attended by representatives of more than 300 enterprises, that customs offices expected to process 80 percent of declarations online to save time. Under this year’s reform agenda, customs officials are also expected to slash the amount of time it takes to checking export shipments by a third.
Nguyen Van Can, deputy head of General Department of Vietnam Customs, said software to allow enterprises to pay taxes electronically was being developed.
At a meeting late last year, company executives complained that administrative reform had made little headway because of the unhelpful attitude of bureaucrats.
