Young entrepreneurs urged to work harder for future

Vietnamese young entrepreneurs should be more confident and make greater efforts to step up production, renew technology, fully tap potentials and expand international cooperation, said a senior legislator.

National Assembly Vice Chairman Nguyen Duc Kien delivered the request at the 3rd Congress of the Vietnam Young Entrepreneurs Organisation that took place in Hanoi on Dec. 13.

The lawmaker said he was delighted at the organisation’s development in all aspects, citing the increasing number of its chapters which currently is 56 with a total membership of more than 7,000 from just 4,000 three years ago.

Programmes initiated by the organisation such as the Sao Do (Red Star) and Sao Vang Dat Viet (Vietnam Gold Star) Awards have inspired the will and aspiration of a large number of young people for setting up business and getting rich in the renewal and integration period, Kien said.

He urged young entrepreneurs to pour more investment into fields where the country has yet to fully tap its potentials, including agricultural products processing, technologies and services with high added value.

“To survive and develop amid the international integration, enterprises must unite with each other to further promote production and business,” the vice chairman said.

Delegates, including 718 young businesspeople both at home and from other countries, namely Russia, Germany, China, Laos, Cambodia and the Czech Republic, discussed five action programmes outlined for the next term from 2009-2011.

These programmes focus on assisting the members to promote sustainable development amid the international integration, improving the efficiency of operations of the organisation and its member businesses, and encouraging the participation in policy making.

Increasing the number of young entrepreneurs, promoting business culture, and assisting young people in study and career will also be priorities of the association in the years to come.

The member businesses have proved to be one of the driving forces for national development, posting a combined yearly revenue of 20 billion USD and providing jobs for more than 1.2 million labourers.
