Vietnam, Hong Kong possess cooperation potential, deputy PM
Vietnam and Hong Kong bear great potential for cooperation as both sides are members of the World Trade Organisation and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum, a government leader said.
At a meeting with Hong Kong’s enterprises on Dec. 24, the visiting Deputy Prime Minister, Truong Vinh Trong, cited Vietnam’s security and political stability and the country’s commitments to reform and integration, young labour forces and abundant natural resources as its advantages.
He also pointed to the role of Hong Kong as the region’s large financial centre and trading and passenger transportation centre
The deputy PM encouraged Hong Kong businesses to boost investment in Vietnam , especially in infrastructure, housing, finance and banking, culture and tourism.
In the first ten months of 2008, Vietnam-Hong Kong’s bilateral trade surpassed 3 billion VND, a year-on-year increase of 25.6 percent.
During the period, Hong Kong invested 34 projects with total registered capital of 305 million USD to Vietnam . It also asked for raising capital of nine existing projects by 25.8 million USD.
The territory is now Vietnam ’s seventh largest investor with 494 projects worth 6.32 billion USD.
