Vietnam Airlines buys 6 planes

Vietnam Airlines Corporation signed a contract on December 12 in Hanoi to buy 6 ATR72-500 planes worth of US$112 million from France’s ATR (Avion de Transport Regional) Company.

This is the second contract to purchase ATR72-500s between the two parties after the first one order in December, 2007, increasing the total of ATR72-500s to be delivered during the 2009-2010 period to 11.

Under the new contract, the first plane of the 6 will be delivered in June, 2009 and the final one in February, 2010.

Vietnam Airlines plans to have 14 ATR72-500s by 2010 to meet increasing demand. It is expected to own the largest fleet of ATR planes in the Asian region.
