SBV Governor meets with BoJ Delegation
Governor Nguyen Van Giau of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV), on November 28, had a meeting with a delegation of the Bank of Japan (BoJ) led by Mr. Seiji Nakamura, Member of the BoJ Policy Board.
In discussion on the bilateral relationship, the SBV Governor asserted that Japan is a very important partner of Vietnam in the banking industry. Over the past years, he went on, financial cooperation between the two countries has increasingly strengthened and borne fruit. In the framework of bilateral cooperation, he said, in the period of 2006-2008, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) provided technical assistance to SBV by sending BoJ experts to Vietnam to help the SBV in developing payment system, issuing and vaulting, monetary market development and legal system reform. Besides, SBV and BoJ have regularly exchanged information and experiences within the framework of the ASEAN+3 Finance Ministers’ and Central Bank Governors’ Meetings.
The Governor took this occasion to express his sincere thanks and high appreciation for Japan’s support, especially its assistance for SBV through the Vietnam- Japan Common Initiative (Phase III) and the Technical Assistance Project on capacity building for SBV in the 2008-2010 period.
The two sides discussed such issues as the impacts of the global economic crisis and recession on the Vietnamese and Japanese economies, performance of Japanese commercial banks’ branches in Vietnam, the relations between enterprises and commercial banks of the two countries in the current economic turmoil, etc.
