PM Dung requires improvement in transport sector
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has required the Ministry of Transport (MOT) to pay attention to modifying the institutions and mechanism for capital construction, capital mobilisation and traffic safety in line with the country’s current situation.
The PM made the request at a conference on implementing the 2009 tasks held by the MOT in Hanoi on December 30.
Dung said the sector should focus on bettering investment disbursement and create favourable conditions for businesses to invest into infrastructure projects.
Traffic safety continues to be a key task next year, with emphasis on aviation safety and road traffic accidents prevention, he added.
The PM also asked the sector to make greater efforts to improve transport services and accelerate equitisation.
MOT Minister Ho Nghia Dung said the sector has worked out four solutions to attain the targets for 2009, including promoting administrative reform, solving capital difficulties for businesses and implementing an action plan against corruption.
The transport sector is aiming to increase goods transport by 9-10 percent and passenger transport by 8-9 percent over 2008.
The sector will also strive to disburse 4.8 trillion VND in Official Development Assistance (ODA) capital and 10 trillion VND from government bonds.
