First cell phone insurance service to be launched
UK-based Vinasure and two local firms, AAA Assurance Corporation and cell phone distributor Vien Thong A, announced on Tuesday that they will together offer the first insurance products for cell phone users in Vietnam.
Under the agreement between the three parties, Vinasure will provide and develop the service and investigate claims from policyholders in Vietnam while AAA will be responsible for payments to policyholders and Vien Thong A will provide cell phones and connection services through its 38 outlets nationwide.
The service, to be introduced in mid-December, will offer a warrantee to users for cell phones that may be stolen, damaged by water or other accidents, and for theft of airtime.
Customers will be eligible for the service if they buy cell phones worth between VND510,000 and VND17 million (US$30 to $1,000) from the distributor and will be reimbursed amounts up to the prices of new cell phones. They can also avail of repair services provided by the partners.
More than eight million cell phones were sold in Vietnam this year and about 10 million will be bought next year, according to GfK Vietnam, a market research firm.
