Banking sector needs new technologies: central bank chief

Vietnam, which lags behind other countries in the use of banking technologies, should upgrade, the central bank governor said at a banking and security conference that opened in Ho Chi Minh City Tuesday.

Nguyen Van Giau said applying new technologies, therefore, “tops our agenda to modernize the country’s banking system.

“A more advanced system will help Vietnam better manage and monitor the operations of the banking system to ensure an effective and safe performance.”

The Banking & Security Expo 2008 also showcased latest banking technologies, solutions, systems and services including Payment Technology, Core Banking, Network Security, Data Protection and Retention.

The organizers, the SBV, Ministry of Public Security and the International Data Group (IDG), said they expect to receive over 3,000 visitors at the two-day event.
