Collection of ATM fees delayed on poor service
The governor of the State Bank of Vietnam on Nov. 27 asked the Vietnam Card Association not to collect ATM transaction fees right now due to poor ATM infrastructure and service quality.
Last Friday, the governor had given the association permission to charge a fee of 1,000 VND (0.05 USD) per transaction starting early next year to help banks have funds to enhance their services and recover their investments.
However, after the announcement of the fee, many people voiced their opposition.
“This is not the right point of time to collect the fees from ATM transactions, because we have yet to get service good enough to pay for it. The decision to delay is appropriate,” said capital city resident Tran Ngoc Luan.
“If in the future the banks collect ATM fees, they should consider letting us enjoy the interest rate of out money in our accounts equal with non-term interest rates. We will then happily accept to pay ATM transaction fees,” said Vu Mai Phuong on Luong Dinh Cua street.
