Station shut down over tank fraud
The Ministry of Industry and Trade on Friday asked provincial people’s committees to revoke the business licenses of 33 petrol stations that have been caught defrauding customers.
Violators’ business licenses will be revoked immediately and their names published in the media.
Nguyen Cam Tu, deputy minister of trade, said the petrol stations had cheated customers by installing electronic chips to tamper with the volume displays on pumps.
The ministry has proposed criminal charges against the stations and has asked the government agencies to continue to check gas stations nationwide.
Violators’ business licenses will be revoked immediately and their names published in the media.
A report on the revocation of licences will be sent to the Prime Minister before October 15.
The Ministry of Science and Technology on September 23 named 33 stations in breach of regulations in HCM City and the provinces of Lang Son, Phu Tho, Hung Yen, Nam Dinh, Nghe An, Quang Nam, Gia Lai, Dac Lac, Dac Nong, Dong Nai and Long An.
Provincial inspection teams said they had caught and fined more gas stations on September 26.
An inspection team from Quang Tri’s Department of Science and Technology discovered that two petrol stations were in violation of regulations governing petrol pumps, including Dong Hien Joint-Stock company and Petrolimex Transportation and Trade Joint-Stock company (Petajico).
They were fined VND5-7 million (US$300-424) each and their registration certificates for petrol pumps were revoked.
The Phu Yen Province’s Steering Committee 127 said they found 10 violators and fined them a total of VND50 million ($3,000).
Inspectors from Long An’s Department of Science and Technology found electronic chips on gas pumps at My Chanh petrol station. They had doctored meter readings of 4 per cent to 5 per cent off.
The petrol station’s manager paid VND18 million ($1,090) in fines.
