SBV Governor meets with Finnish Ambassador
Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) Nguyen Van Giau, on October 23rd 2008, had a meeting with the Finnish Ambassador to Vietnam, Mr. Pekka Hyvonen.
The two sides exchanged views on the global and Vietnamese economies, and developments of the Vietnamese banking sector. Mr. Pekka Hyvonen highly appreciated the achievements Vietnam has obtained so far, particularly the measures on curbing inflation and stabilizing its macro-economy.
"The Government is doing its best to mitigate any adverse impacts that the Vietnamese economy could suffer from the global economic depression" the Governor said. Additionally, he added, the Vietnamese government has gradually been successfully implementing 8 major comprehensive sets of policies to put inflation rate in downward trend in recent months. Especially, inflation rate was registered at 0.18% in September 2008 and expected to be lower in October 2008.
At the meeting, the two sides wished for further cooperation in banking and financial areas comparable with the development of economic and trading relations between the two countries. The SBV Governor expressed his call to share experiences of Finland in developing and implementing monetary policies.
