Forum on Vietnamese economy held in Germany
A forum on Vietnam’s economy was held in Bielefeld city ( Germany ), on October 14, attracting the participation of over 40 local business representatives.
In an introduction to Vietnam’s economic situation, Bielefeld Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK), the host of the forum, said that despite facing a number of difficulties, Vietnam’s economy is enjoying a host of positive developments.
The country, one of Southeast Asia’s important investment destinations and consumer markets, has not been unknown to German businesses for a long time, IHK told participants, who included the Vietnamese Embassy’s Berlin-based Trade Counselor Nguyen Minh Dung.
Lawyers Christoph Angerbauer and Phil Huenning, from the Roedl and Partner Vietnam Legal Company, briefed the forum on investment opportunities and the legal system in Vietnam.
They said that conditions for investment and production activity in Vietnam are excellent, while tax rates levied on investment activities by Vietnam is more attractive than in many other Asian countries.
However, Vietnam now suffers from a shortage of professional laborers, and the cost of leasing offices is still rather expensive, they added.
Meanwhile, Kharin Prasse, a member of the Hamburg-based East Asian Association, said that Vietnam’s economic situation is now “too hot,” but it will improve in 2009.
In her opinion, Vietnam is a good market for industrial equipment and consumer goods, while Germany is world-famous for its technical expertise.
At the forum, IHK also presented a range of other topics related to the current legal situation in Vietnam while some German companies presented their experiences of doing business in the Southeast Asian country.
