Eurocham bridges EU-Vietnam trade, investment relations
The European Chamber of Commerce (Eurocham) has helped over 600 European businesses seek partners in Vietnam since its founding ten years ago through its active operation in the country.
Just since 2007, Eurocham has organised more than 20 business seminars in big cities such as Hue, Can Tho, Nha Trang, Buon Me Thuot, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, bringing EU and local businesses together.
Not only European businesses benefit from these events. The Ha Tay Trade Company in Chuong My district, Hanoi (former Ha Tay province) had seen its revenues rise to 1 million USD last year after finding new partners in East Europe at an Eurocham-sponsored seminar in October 2007. Nguyen Huu Dinh, the company’s legal representative, said the company plans to expand operation and employ more labourers this year.
The chamber also hosts various events to provide information on the EU market to Vietnamese exporters.
Eurocham’s operation has helped increase two-way trade between Vietnam and the EU to 17.4 billion USD last year. In the first eight months of this year, the figure reached 14.9 billion USD.
By the end of 2007, European businesses invested 24.5 billion USD in almost all sectors in Vietnam.
According to Ambassador Sean Doyle, Head of the European Commission (EC) delegation to Vietnam, EU businesses led foreign investors in Vietnam in capital disbursement last year with a total of nearly 5 billion USD disbursed.
Eurocham President Alian Cany said the organisation is committed to working closely with all partners to help Vietnam reach and maintain its very fullest potential.
