Hanoi’s airport planned for civil use

The Vietnam Aviation Administration announced on Sept. 25 that Hanoi ’s Gia Lam airport will be used for both civil and military purposes.

To this end, a 286.6 billion VND (17 million USD) project has been approved for construction and upgrading of the 302.61 ha airport.

During the first phrase that ends in 2015, almost 77 ha of the current airport will be converted into a 3C airport pursuant to the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) classification.

The civil terminal will initially accommodate flights from and to Dien Bien in the northeast, Vinh in the central and others. It is expected to be capable of serving 162,000 and 290,000 passengers per year in 2015 and 2025 respectively.
