Vietnamese trade union joins global network
The Vietnam Post and Telecommunications (VNPT) trade union has become the first in Vietnam to join the Union Network International (UNI).
With its UNI admission, the VNPT trade union will have a chance to participate in all of the global union organisation’s activities, share experiences in union work and strengthen the solidarity with workers and trade unions worldwide.
At an announcement ceremony held in Hanoi on August 28, Christopher NG, General Secretary of the UNI Asia Pacific Regional Organisation (UNI-Apro), spoke highly of activities of Vietnamese trade unions, including the VNPT.
Vietnam Labour Confederation Vice Chairman Hoang Ngoc Thanh said the event is an important milestone in the international integration of the Vietnamese trade unions in general and the VNPT trade union in particular.
The cooperation between the VNPT trade union and UNI-Apro has greatly contributed to improving awareness and ways of thinking for Vietnamese union activists, he added.
Thanh said he wished UNI to continue its support for the VNPT trade union and believed that the cooperation between the two sides would further develop.
UNI is now a family of over 15 million unionists of 1,000 trade unions from 153 countries. It has close coordination with other international organisations in ensuring human rights and rights of trade unions respected in all countries.
