Agricultural product exports exceed US$11 billion
Calculations by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development released on August 26th show that total agriculture, forestry and seafood export turnover will reach an estimated USD 1.7 billion this month, a 49.7 percent year on year.
Of this, agricultural product exports reached an estimated USD 970 million, a 75.2 percent increase; sea food exports, reached USD 500 million, a 34.7 percent increase; and forestry product exports reached USD 245 million, a 11.2 percent increase against August, 2007.
This figure raised agriculture, forestry and seafood export turnover in the first eight months this year to USD 11.2 billion, a 33.3 percent increase year on year. Among this, agricultural products hit more than USD 6.3 billion, a 44.9 percent increase; seafood, nearly USD 2.9 billion, a 22.3 percent increase and forestry, USD 2 billion, a 18.8 percent increase year on year.
The export turnover value of commodities surged compared to the same period last year, including a double increase in rice exports. The major reason for this was that export prices increased while the total volume of commodities decreased, with the exception of pepper and cashews.
The domestic market management team on August 26th said that the total social service and retail commodities in August reached VND 81.7 trillion, raising the figure in the first eight months of this year to VND 609.2 trillion, a 30 percent increase year on year. Export turnover in August reached USD 6.1 billion, raising the figure in the first eight months to USD 43.3 billion, a 39.1 percent increase year on year.
Import turnover in August was USD 7 billion, raising the figure in the first eight months of 2008 to USD 59.2 billion, a 54.1 percent increase year on year. According to the domestic market management team, the CPI in September is scheduled to increase by 1-1.2 percent against August.
