VN-Index ends string of ten consecutive increases
The VN-Index of the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange dropped for the first time in two weeks today, ending its string of ten consecutive increases.
In the first phase of today's session, the situation was the same as in previous ones as buying orders outstripping selling ones. The benchmark VN-Index closed the first phase up 8.81 points or 2% to 448.49. However, selling orders increased compared to previous session with over 6.1 million units matched for more than VND 171 billion, signaling a reverse in the following phases.
And it happened, realising the reverse signal of the VN-Index, investors kept placing selling orders in the last two phases in today session in order to get profit after the market increased in two consecutive weeks. Prices of stocks started to decline.
Ending the session, the VN-Index lost 3.79 points or 0.86% to 435.89. Trading volume reported a sharp increase with over 25.3 million traded via order matching for nearly VND 844 billion. This is the second highest volume so far this year, only after the volume recorded on April 8 of over 25.6 billion matched for VND 1,244 billion.
In the first phase, 120 out of the 157 listed stocks still reported gains. However, as the VN-Index reversed, ending today's session, only 18 listed stocks were gainers while 129 moved in the opposite direction and ten others stayed still.
STB, DPM and SSI took the top three positions in terms of trading volume with 3.7 million units, 2.7 million units and over 2 million units matched respectively.
Foreign investors today bought more than sold. Specifically, they bought over 8.7 million shares VND 365 billion while sold over 2 million units worth VND 74 billion.
The HASTC-Index of the Hanoi Securities Trading Centre (HaSTC) on July 7 also reported a decline as it lost 0.77 points or 0.61% to end at 124.78. Though the index declined, a majority of stocks listed on the northern bourse still reported gains
Of the total 142 shares listed on the northern bourse, 24 shares reported losses while 99 gained, 13 others stayed unchanged and six had no trades.
The total market trading volume hit over 17 million shares worth over VND 424 billion, up more than four times in volume and value compared to the previous trading session.
