NGO furthers help to agriculture in Mekong delta

Belgian non-governmental organisation VVOB has launched an agricultural promotion programme, to be carried out in five Mekong delta provinces in the 2008-2012 period.

The 460,000 EUR project, next step of the Mekong Delta Agricultural Extension Project (MDAEP) in the 2001-2007 period, aims to help farmers with more efficient measures to develop agricultural production.

The project will benefit farmers in Soc Trang, An Giang, Long An, Binh Phuoc and Ba Ria-Vung Tau provinces.

According to Duong Minh Hoang, Director of the Soc Trang Agriculture Promotion Centre, the project will provide technical assistance and help farmers design yearly production plans based on their actual needs.

This year, the project will build a laboratory in Soc Trang province, hold technical training courses for farmers and agricultural promotion workers, and help introduce 1,200 demonstration models for farming and animal raising.
