VASEP, Russian partner join forces
The Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Processors (VASEP) recently signed an agreement with the Russian Association of Seafood Traders and Processors to develop business strategies between themselves as well as seafood enterprises of their respective countries.
In the five-year agreement, VASEP said that Russia would update a list of its seafood importers who want to do business with Vietnamese groups, provide quarterly statistics of seafood imports from Vietnam and information about trends in the Russian seafood markets as well as forecasts of the market.
In return, Vietnam agreed to update a list of its seafood exporters to Russia , quarterly statistics on export to Russia and quarterly forecasts on price and new products in seafood.
The two sides have said they will support each other in controlling and improving the quality of exported seafood products in accordance to international standards.
Seafood exports to Russia in the first quarter were estimated to be 60 million USD, an increase of 30 percent year-on-year, according to VASEP.
Russia ranked fifth among Vietnam ’s largest seafood markets, behind the European Union (EU), the US , Japan , and the Republic of Korea , buying almost 10 percent of last year’s exports.
Thirty eight seafood firms have so far received licences to export seafood to Russia .
Shipments of catfish fillet to Russia have increased sharply though the prices are lower than in the EU.
