Ministry proposes halt of fertiliser exports

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has submitted a proposal to the government, asking for a temporary halt of chemical fertiliser exports, mainly DAP, kali, SA and urea fertilisers.

The Ministry asked that the government builds a specific export tariff for each kind of fertiliser and proposed that in the long-term, certain kinds of fertiliser should be subjected to higher export tariffs.

Vietnam needs an estimated 7.5-8 million tonnes of fertiliser annually. However, domestic production can only meet 50% of the total demand.

Currently, the country has to import all DAP, kali and SA fertiliser and 50% of the urea fertiliser.

According to customs statistics, domestic enterprises have exported nearly 100,000 tonnes of fertilizers so far this year, causing a shortage in fertiliser and boosting the increase in prices of fertiliser in the domestic market.
