ATM fee charges delayed

The Vietnam Bank Card Association announced on June 4 that its members have agreed not to collect transaction fees from domestic ATMs from June 1.

The collection of the fee will be made at an appropriate time so that banks will have more time to perfect their infrastructural technical facilities to increase the quality of their services and customers also have more time to get used to transactions via ATMs.

Earlier, the association had proposed to start charging fees for transactions via ATMs from July 1 at a minimum fee of VND 1,000 a transaction, explaining that the move was aimed at developing the banks' card services and partially making up for the investment by banks.

However, the proposal has received negative responses from cardholders as well as from functional agencies.
