PetroVietnam fertilizer signs import deal with Qatar fertilizer
PetroVietnam Fertilizer & Chemical Joint-Stock Co., the country’s biggest fertilizer producer, said it inked an agreement for Qatar Fertilizer Co., known as Qafco, to import urea into the Southeast Asian country.
Under the agreement, signed in Qatar this week, the Doha-based company will sell a “large volume” of urea to the Vietnamese firm over three years, the company said in a statement Friday.
“We are still discussing with Qatar Fertilizer on prices and total volume of the urea we want to buy,’’ Pham Thanh Vinh, a deputy general director of PVFCCo, said without elaborating.
PVFCCo., a state-run oil and gas group PetroVietnam unit, produces about 45 percent of the 1.7 million tons of fertilizer used in the country annually.
The company said it plans to import a total of 250,000 tons this year.
PVFCCo., the second-biggest company by market value on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange, dropped 0.9 percent to VND45,900 Friday.
Qatar Fertilizer, a unit of Doha-based Industries Qatar, the largest publicly traded company in the country, produces fertilizer, petrochemicals and steel in the Persian Gulf state.
