Seminar discusses measures to curb inflation for stable and sustainable economic development
The best measure to help curb the current inflation is to promote development of production, stressed delegates who attended a seminar held this morning in Hanoi.
The seminar entitled “Measures to curb inflation, continuing to bring the national economy to stable and sustainable development” was jointly held by Nhan Dan Newspaper, the Ministry of Finance and the State Bank of Vietnam with the participation of economists, experts, managers and major enterprises’ leaders.
Their discussions focused on analysing the causes of inflation, forecasted the advantages and disadvantages for the national economy and proposed practical measures to limit the impacts of high inflation and promote economic development.
Delegates to the seminar emphasised that in order to curb inflation effectively, it is important to have a close co-ordination between relevant ministries, sectors, agencies and enterprises.
Others measures include increasing the efficiency of investment, tightening public spending and practicing thrift, among others.
Dinh La Thang, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) stressed that each enterprise, based on the Government’s measures against inflation and their own situation, should build their own programme to fight inflation. For example, he said, PetroVietnam has set a specific target to reducing the price of nitrogenous fertiliser by 10-15%. In order to achieve this, the group has pooled efforts to promote production and imports more in order to meet the domestic demands, so as to take the initiative in prices and stabilise the market.
He also stressed that enterprises should be given more self-control power, along with self-responsibility, so that they can take the initiative in their trading activities, and can be able to make quick decisions to seize business opportunities.
Mr Thang’s point of view was similar to that by Mr Doan Van Kien, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Vietnam Minerals and Coal Group. Mr Kien added that his group is focusing on speeding up production as well as processing raw materials so as to produce higher value-added products.
Delegates to the seminar also urged that there should be a social welfare programme to support those in need.
