FPT approved to start own mobile network
FPT Telecom has received permission from the Ministry of Information and Communications to establish its own inter-province and international telecommunications networks, the company announced late last week.
Until now, the company relied on leasing lines from other network operators.
"This will create the right conditions for us to expand our service networks at more competitive prices," said Nguyen Van Khoa, deputy director of FPT Telecom’s Ha Noi branch.
"From now on we can be active in carrying out investment and business plans, as well as in selecting and negotiating with local and international partners to link telecommunications networks."
Within 12 to 18 months the company plans to develop a 10 gigabyte per second Ha Noi-HCM City transmission line, as well as lines to Hong Kong, Shanghai and America.
"Effective packages of services and stable infrastructure will be our priorities in order to compete in the telecommunications market," Khoa said.
FPT Telecom is the seventh firm to be authorised to establish to provide telecommunications services after Viet Nam Post and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) , Viettel, Electricity of Viet Nam (EVN), Ha Noi Telecom, Sai Gon Postel and the Viet Nam Multimedia Corporation.
The company last month concluded a US$20 million deal with EVN Telecom (Electricity of Viet Nam) to lease a 2.5 gigabite international high-speed internet line.
