Shares slide, ACB jumps to lift the north
Vietnamese shares ended down on Thursday morning, erasing early gains as investors lacked supporting news.
The benchmark VN-Index on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange slid 0.03 per cent to end at 850.96 points.
The VN-Index rose 0.56 per cent on Wednesday.
Large-cap stocks on the southern bourse were hit by the low market sentiment following the decline of world stocks.
The blue-chip tracker VN30-Index dropped 0.22 per cent to 787.70 points with two-thirds of the 30 largest stocks by market capitalisation and trading liquidity declining.
Among the worse large-cap losers were PetroVietnam Power (POW), Hoang Huy Investment Financial Services (TCH), SSI Securities (SSI), PetroVietnam Gas (GAS) and property developer Novaland (NVL).
The mid-cap and small-cap sectors also ended the morning session in the red, dropping 0.35 per cent and 0.14 per cent, respectively.
On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index advanced 1.38 per cent to close Thursday morning at 120.83 points.
The northern market index increased by 1.85 per cent on Wednesday.
Asia Commercial Bank (ACB) drove the northern bourse up as it jumped 5.6 per cent.
Nearly 206.4 million shares were traded on the two exchanges, worth VND4.43 trillion (US$189.7 million).
The afternoon trading session starts at 1pm.
