Indonesia, Vietnam to cooperate in food security
The Indonesian government plans to cooperate with Vietnam in the field of food security, said Indonesian Minister of Agriculture Suswono.
During the recent 31st United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) Regional Conference for the Asia-Pacific, Mr Suswono expressed his hope for effective cooperation in implementing investment projects in Vietnam, especially those on food security.
He said that Vietnam has great potential for agricultural production. Through cooperation in developing hybrid rice strain, Indonesia can become self-sufficient in its food supply by producing additional 10 million tonnes of rice by 2015 with an average yield of 9-10 tonne per hectare.
Indonesia has a plan to cooperate with Cambodia and Myanmar in producing foodstuffs to ensure food security.
