Big C reps meet with Lao suppliers

An executive team from Thailand's Big C Supercentre Public Company Limited yesterday met with more than 100 local suppliers to seek out goods for its new supermarket in Vientiane.

A Big C Supercentre branch is expected to open at the new Talat Sao Shopping Mall (Morning Market) in the capital at the end of this year.

The purpose of yesterday's meeting was to give Big C administrators the chance to build rapport with Lao suppliers, so that they may enjoy fruitful work relationships in the future, Assistant Vice President of Big C Supercentre's Dry Food Department Mr Wichai Benyadilok said at the meeting.

“This cooperation is an important step in Big C being able to offer thrifty and worthwhile services to Lao customers,” he said.

“We intend to select the highest quality goods to respond to the growing demands of the Lao people, and work closely with the Lao government, Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Lao suppliers for mutual development.”

Mr Wichai said the Vientiane branch of the Big-C Supercentre will stock about 50 percent of goods sourced from Lao producers, including vegetables, fish, meat and dry foods.

A special team will be put together to inspect production at factories and farms, as well as dispense advice to Lao producers, he said.

The company also plans to train a large number of Lao staff on customer relations before employing them at the supermarket.

In addition to having better access to a wide range of goods, Big C customers in Laos will receive promotions similar to those offered in Thailand, he said.

“Depending on the success of the Vientiane branch, Big C intends to expand to other provinces,” Mr Wichai added.

Big C Supercentre began its operations in 1993, and now has a total of 108 branches, with 48 branches in Bangkok and the vicinity, and 60 branches in the provinces.

Big C offers a clean, comfortable shopping environment with a wide assortment of goods available at reasonable prices. It aims to provide a one-stop shopping experience for customers and prides itself on outstanding customer services to ensure a winning business strategy.
