Amata draws a $20bln park plan
Thailand’s Amata Corp. Plc. is working out a plan to pump a massive $20 billion into an integrated industrial estate in Dong Nai province.
To be named Amata Express City, the project will cover 1,300 hectares close to the site for the new Long Thanh international airport near Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai River.
Huynh Ngoc Phien, general director of Amata Vietnam, a member of Amata Corp Plc., said Amata Express City would consist of three main areas. They comprise a 760ha new urban area next to the river, a 420ha high-tech industrial area and a 105ha new urban area.
The project’s design has just been finished and construction is scheduled to start in early 2013. The project’s first phase is expected to complete by 2015. Amata Vietnam plans to call for other investors to jointly develop the giant project.
“This is a milestone for Amata’s investment in Vietnam. It is in line with our strategy to expand the industrial land, to accommodate business relocations as well as demand for manufacturing expansion,” said Somhatai Panicjewa, chief business officer at Amata Corp.
Amata Corp. opened its first industrial park in Vietnam in 1994. The 700-hectare park is a joint venture between the Thai company and Vietnam’s industrial zone developer Sonadezi Corporation.
Located in Bien Hoa city, Dong Nai province, the park has completed its phases I, IIA, IIB and IID with an occupancy rate of 92.2 per cent. It is now on the way to develop the 54ha IIE and 66ha III phases.
Amata Industrial Park has attracted 122 investors with a combined registered capital of some $1.7 billion. Amata Corp. Plc. is Thailand’s leading developer and manager of factory estates.
