Seafood exports reach $6 bln in 2011

Vietnam earned $6 billion from seafood exports in 2011, representing a year-on-year rise of 20 per cent and surpassing the set target by $5.7 billion.

According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), in 2011, the country’s total seafood output reached 5.2 million tonnes, up 1.4 per cent over last year.

The total aquaculture area increased by 2.5 per cent to 1,093 ha.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has set a target of earning $6.5 billion from aquatic product exports in 2012, up 5 per cent from this year
