Seminar boosts Danang- New Zealand investment and trade

A seminar to promote Danang-New Zealand cooperation in investment and trade was held on March 7 by the Danang municipal People’s Committee in collaboration with the New Zealand embassy in Vietnam and the ASEAN-New Zealand Business Council.

The event attracted more than 40 businesses in Danang and 11 representatives of eight New Zealand enterprises involved in construction, food and beverages, civil aviation and food processing.

New Zealand’s Consul General in HCM City, Graham Sims said its Trade Office’s development strategy will focus on the central provinces, particularly Danang, aiming to turn it into a clean and green city by 2020.

Vice Chairman of the Danang municipal People’s Committee, Van Huu Chien said to develop Danang into one of the country’s major cities and an economic and social hub of the central region, municipal leaders have paid special attention to adopting incentive policies aimed at attracting investment from foreign businesses.

The seminar offered an excellent opportunity for the municipal leaders to introduce New Zealand businesses to the investment environment in Danang, the city’s socio-economic status, its potential for development as well as polices for attracting foreign investment and the relevant regulations.

The event provided an exchange for Danang businesses to establish initial relations with New Zealand partners.

Cooperative relations between Vietnam and New Zealand are currently focused primarily on non-government aid.

Since July 2004, New Zealand’s Global Volunteer Network (GVN) has brought volunteers from different countries to Danang to become involved in caring for poor, orphan and handicapped children and teaching them English.

The GVN launches many programmes annually for voluntary humanitarian activities and English teaching classes at the Danang Red Cross Association and provincial community centres.
