Mekong Delta to become global economic zone

The Mekong Delta is expected to become a major agricultural production region in the global network, a dynamic and sustainable economic zone, and a great centre for culture, history and tourism by 2050.

The Ministry of Construction and the Can Tho People’s Committee have made public the Prime Minister’s decision on the Zoning Plan for Development of the Mekong Delta until 2020 with a vision for 2050.

The region will include Can Tho City and 12 adjacent provinces.

The zoning plan provides orientations for upgrading Can Tho airport into an international one, and building Phu Quoc airport into an international airport and Ca Mau and Rach Gia airports into domestic ones.
