Danish business delegation set to visit
Three Danish business delegations are set to tour Viet Nam from March 28th to April 2nd to explore business opportunities and establish new trade partnerships, the Embassy of Denmark announced on Mar. 18.
The delegations would include 11 companies in the water industry, 20 from the garment and textile sector and a group of pig breeders.
"These are all areas in which Denmark is a technological and know-how front-runner and they have a lot to offer to Viet Nam," said Danish Ambassador John Nielsen.
"I hope this visit will lead to concrete partnerships between Danish and Vietnamese companies in the future."
During their visit, the delegations will participate in seminars, company visits, business meetings and press conferences. All three delegations will visit both Ha Noi and HCM City.
The trip would allow Danish businesses to showcase new technologies which could help Vietnamese companies enhance their production capacities. Danish firms will also share their experiences in labour training and improving the work environment for labours, the ambassador said.
Two-way trade has increased significantly during past years, topping US$1.7 billion in the first 10 months of last year. To date, Danish businesses have pumped US$ 613 million into 93 projects in Viet Nam, ranking Denmark 25th among foreign investors in the country.
"This year, we will be focusing on garment and textile, pig breeding, clean technology in which Danish technology is world-class. We will also focus on education, oil and gas and food security, as well as upgrading skills and improving the working environment," Nielsen said.
"Viet Nam must invest more in education, which is fundamental to the future development of the country. It is necessary that the quality of education provided in schools and universities is improved. There is still a shortage of skilled workers. That's one thing."
"The other thing worth mentioning is that it is important the country improves its infrastructure, which is important to attracting more companies to invest here. They need to know they can quickly export their products to keep costs down," he added.
"Corruption is also an area which is hindering the enhancement of the business environment but I think the efforts that the Government is making to reduce corruption are very important," he said.
"We are looking forward to increased co-operation with Viet Nam. We have 125 Danish companies here, which is a lot considering Denmark is a small country of just 5 million people. That said, more Danish companies are looking to do business here. The Crown Prince of Denmark is visiting Viet Nam in November. We expect he will be accompanied by a big business delegation. Clearly a great many Danish firms want to invest here."
"Some of these Danish firms are medium-sized one and others are the biggest in Denmark such as AP Moller/Maersk, Carlsberg and others. I can only see greater and greater interest due to the fact we have a very good relationship with Viet Nam, with its Government and with the Vietnamese people," he said.
"We have been working here for many years. Soon we will be celebrating the 40th anniversary of formal Viet Nam-Denmark diplomatic relations. This will be a momentous occasion and I can only see relations going from strength to strength," he added.
