Building capacity for Vietnam’s leather and footwear sector
The Vietnam Leather and Footwear Association on March 10 held a seminar to build capacity for Vietnamese leather and footwear businesses.
European experts provided participants with in-depth reports on international trade and various ways to improve their competitiveness and penetrate the EU markets.
In 2010, the sector’s export turnover reached more than US$6 billion of which the EU markets accounted for 50 percent.
However, the experts said, Vietnamese businesses will have to cope with many challenges caused by the anti-dumping tax and tough competition in the market. They proposed the sector focus on improving the quality of products and human resources.
Nguyen Duc Thuan, Chairman of the Vietnam Leather and Footwear Association emphasized the need to expand the distribution network far and wide and build a strong brand name for the sector.
