Vietnam to spend $87 million in IT through 2015

Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has approved an investment of VND1.7 trillion ($87.2 million) for the national program on information technology application in state agencies by 2015.

The program targets IT infrastructure for developing e-government, expand IT applications in the state sector, and provide information and public services. The country also plans to build a database center to link central and local information systems.

The government plans to build national database centers on people, natural resources and environment, finance, economics, industry, and trade to boost e-governance in the public sector. It plans to introduce video-conferencing between Government, ministerial and local representatives. Additionally it expects State agencies to open websites to offer online public services.
