Fast track for new IPs in Ca Mau
The Government has given Ca Mau Province approval to include construction of four industrial parks in its 2011-20 general plan for social and economic development.
The move is to speed up construction of the park, Khanh An, Hoa Trung, Nam Can, and Song Doc, all of which cover 1,477 hectares.
Mai Huu Chinh, Director of the province's Department of Planning and Investment, said the province faces challenges like being located far from key trade and economic centres, difficulties in transport and poor infrastructure.
These problems have delayed the parks' construction and made it hard for them to attract domestic or foreign investors.
The 360ha Khanh An Industrial Park in U Minh District, being developed by the Sai Gon-Ca Mau Infrastructure Joint Stock Co, has seen just 157ha cleared so far.
The other parks have paid compensation and resettled their previous residents and have even managed to attract some seafood processing companies.
But their operations are hampered by poor infrastructure, transport and wastewater treatment facilities.
