Three-month delay for electrical safety licence
The Science and Technology Ministry has extended the deadline for electronic manufacturers to obtain safety certificates for their goods to September 15.
A customer buys electrical goods in Dong Ha Market, central Quang Tri Province. As of September, only electrical goods with technical and safety stamps coded CR are qualified to be on sale.
The ministry’s regulations require kettles, thermos flasks, hair dryers, rice cookers and fans to carry a technical and safety stamp coded CR before they can be offered for sale.
Manufacturers and retailers had required more time to classify their goods and have them tested, explained Metrology and Product Quality Management Department Standards Director Tran Quoc Tuan.
"The department will increase the dissemination of information about the certificates to raise the awareness of both businesses and consumers about the change during the next three months," he said.
All the country’s standards, metrology and quality centres were ready to register qualified businesses.
Quality assurance and testing centres could receive their certification and CR stamps for their goods based on testing certificates provided by the relevant government agencies.
"They will freely receive their certification and stamps if they meet technical requirements," the director said.
The certificates were required to protect consumers.
Electronic goods without a CR stamp after September 1 will be deemed low quality or fake.
