Garment, textile group honoured
The Viet Nam National Garment and Textile Group has been presented with the Gold Star Order, the nation's highest decoration, in recognition of its contributions to national development.
The presentation was made by President Nguyen Minh Triet yesterday at a meeting to mark the group's 15th anniversary of establishment.
Triet said the group was the nucleus of the nation's garment and textile sector, lifting it to among the world's top 10 garment and textile exporting countries.
He said the sector's growth was associated with the country's development. However, the garment industry was developing fast throughout the world and the group needed to strive harder to stay competitive, with particular attention to the use of local materials.
The group also should focus on staff training and the wellbeing of its workers.
Viet Nam is the second biggest exporter of garment and textile to the US and the third biggest to Japan. The group has targeted US$10.5 billion in exports this year. It has commercial relations with more than 70 countries and territories besides 3,000 domestic retail outlets nationwide.
